Day 5

My day started with a phone call at 7:48 this morning. It was the Radiology dept at Carthage Area Hospital telling me that the Dr. who I was scheduled to see today was called away to Albany to do emergency constructive surgery. Fine by me! To be honest, I am not looking forward to them telling me that I broke my toe and it didn't heal right etc.

I went back to sleep of course. So when I finally got out of bed, I turned on the computer and was about to play around, when Michele called me. Newsletter business... here we go! So I had to sit here and re-vamp the newsletter, make it a double issue because it was never approved for April. Michele's ears must have been burning because I was cussing her out while working on the newsletter! Needless to say, I managed to pull it off and get it sent back to her and Stephanie! w00t!

Outside... what can I say? It was a beautiful day, and so the bike riding commenced! I rode form the house to the PX because I wanted to check out some of the decorations and I had to buy Colleen a birthday gift. (Her birthday party is tomorrow, nothing like leaving it to the last minute right!) I bought a few more things, bought Colleen her gift and of course bought some subway. Found out as well that today was the last day for our Subway guy - he is moving home to Mississippi! :(

As I was leaving the PX, I ran into Amanda and Kirstie! Amanda told me that she has lost 16 pounds in a month... good for her!!! And Kirstie said she has to start walking again. Trust me - it is hard to get into a regiment, but now that I have hit day 5 I think I am going to be good to go from here on it! Keep it up Girls!

I left the PX and swung by Misti's. It seems logical for me to either swing by Misti's or Colleen's because they are on post. I am not sure I am ready to try and tackle off post yet! I would love to ride over to Jenn's but 1) she has a HUGE hill leading up to her place and my arse would never make it up, even walking, and 2) it would entail me crossing the entire post, riding to her place, riding back and crossing post again! I am doing good but I honestly do not believe I am there just yet! As soon as I am though she won't be able to get rid of me! lol

I finished off my ride by coming home. I was going to stop and see Jodi and Kelly and Kim and the kids (wow - a lot of and's in there!) but they weren't outside so I tackled the hill! Success! Even after my long ride I managed to complete the hill without getting off the bike. Of course, I had to put the bike in first gear and it was like a crawl up, but I did it nonetheless!!!

I'm tired, my thighs are sore, my back is sore, but I feel great! Now I have to make a pasta salad for Colleen's birthday tomorrow and clean the house. Apparently my work is never done!

Day 4

Well, what can I say? I am a slacker!

Today I was supposed to go to Guthrie and have blood drawn for my allergy testing. Yeah, that didn't happen. It was too cold for me and there was no way in heck I was going to ride my bike all the way across post and back! Yes, I was lazy! So I called Guthrie and it's all good. It is an open lab, so I can go on Monday and have them draw it if I feel like. lol

Colleen called and asked if I wanted to go to the Commissary with her. Of course! I checked the mail before we left and guess what??? The thing I am going to wear for my husbands homecoming came in! I was overjoyed!

We went to the PX and Commissary, I picked up a few things that I needed and then headed over to Misti's. I made her and Ashley bagel pizza's for lunch. (My Pay It Forward deed! Misti's was that she picked me up 2 cases of soda that were on sale at Walmart.) Misti is a picky eater, but I guess she liked them because she ate most of the 2 that I gave her. Ashley devoured hers as well! Travis, Ashley's son, decided to try and eat a whole plastic egg from Easter, so I pulled that out of his mouth! He cried for a bit but soon forgot about it. That's how kids are right? Something scares them but it is quickly forgotten. ;)

So I hung out at Misti's for a long while, then realized that my poor dog was at home and hadn't been out for hours, so I came home, let her out and she was a happy girl. I called Michele to catch up and then talked to Jenn for the better part of 2 and a half hours. I love my phone calls!

Now I am getting ready for bed. I am going to try and ride my bike in the morning. I am not sure if I will be able to do it after tomorrow afternoon. I have an appointment to have my baby toe looked at. See, when we first moved here I was walking through the dining room and slammed my baby toe into a box... my foot went black and blue and brown. It was gross and super painful! Well, when I had my toe nails looked at earlier this month, they said I may have broken it and that I should have it x-rayed. So tomorrow afternoon is my appointment. Here's the kicker - if I broke it and it didn't heal right, they are going to have to re-break it and set it properly! I am holding out all kinds of hope that this isn't the case! I want to be able to ride my bike!

Until tomorrow...

Day 3

I made it up the hill today!!!

Let me start from the beginning!

Last night I was racking my brain trying to remember what I had to do today and I couldn't think of anything. So I slept in a little. I was awakened by my amazing husbands phone call! I love his phone calls. They come maybe once a week if I am lucky, so I enjoy every minute of them! While I was talking to him, Kelly beeped in and I ignored the call, knowing I would call her back when I was done with James.

I called Kelly back only to realize that I was supposed to be at her house at 10 for her Mary Kay party! (As most of you know, I do not wear makeup but I go to parties to be supportive of my friends!) I called Jenn freaking out - because I was talking to her last night when I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do today. She laughed at me and stayed on the phone with me until I was about ready to go! Have to love speaker phone!

I took Daisy outside and realized it was still cold out, so I threw on my vest and headed down to the garage. Of course, taking my bike was the only way I was going to get there real fast! I flew down the hill, my fingers feeling like they were going to fall off from the cold. I crossed the street and ran into Ms. Kim, who told me everyone was at Kelly's. Boy, did I feel stupid walking in and the party was almost over! Needless to say, I didn't buy anything but I booked a party in order to support Kelly's "wish list".

Kelly had to leave to go pick up Grace, so she offered for me to go with her so I could stop at the PX and grab some smokes (yes, I am still smoking) and naturally I bought myself a crack bread from Subway. Flat bread = Crack Bread for me! I swear Subway puts something in their food to make you crave it even more! Anyway, as we were leaving Kelly's, I managed to spill coffee on my jeans, making it look like I peed my pants! No biggie - I am not worried what other people think, and most know I do not go out in public looking all dirty and nasty!  ;)

I accomplished everything I needed to and met Kelly outside. We came back to her place, talked for a bit, and I found out that her husband thinks I am a bowling shark out for blood!!! Hmm... I wonder where he heard THAT from? I am going to blame Jenn's husband Dan, and my husband of course! That's a horse of a different color for sure. lol

I left Kelly's, hopped on my bike and headed home. Now, Kelly lives just down the hill and around the corner, so I figured it wouldn't be all that hard going home since I didn't put in a full ride. Was I mistaken? Of course! I peddled my heart out to get enough momentum to try and cruise up the hill. No go! I was huffing and cussing and dying all the way up the hill! But I MADE IT!!! My thighs felt like rocks when I got off the bike but at least I accomplished something today that I thought was going to take me longer. It will of course be harder if I do a full ride, which I am hoping to accomplish by the end of the week. (Good luck chuck!)

So now I am getting ready to go to a Volunteer Recognition thing tonight with Michele. Dress is Business Casual. Fun fun for me! Of course I will take a bunch of pictures - as a mater of fact, I will have to take a picture of the hill as well!

So I am feeling accomplished and energized. I hope this feeling holds out for my entire Bicycle mission!

Day 2

SNOW!

Do I really need to say anything more?

I was all set today to get up and meet the girls for lunch at the Dining Facility (DFAC). I was going to ride my bike over because it isn't all that far, but when I opened my eyes and saw that it was snowing, I quickly squashed that idea.

Turns out that my friend Misti sleeps like the dead, so she didn't answer her dang phone the numerous times I called her. My other friend Ashley had just put her son Travis down to nap, so she wasn't going to be able to come for lunch either. Michele had a Steering Committee Meeting - she was out. So that just left Jenn, her son Boston and I for lunch. We went to the DFAC for 11:00 only to find out that it didn't open until 11:30. My fault. I was under the impression that it opened at 11. At any rate, we had a fabulous lunch! I got Pastrami on a Spinach Wrap, a salad, some french fries, because a girl needs some fatty foods, and I finished it off with cheesecake. I grabbed a container of what I thought was strawberry topping for the cheesecake - turns out it was just plain old jell-o. They also had what looked like chocolate pudding, so I grabbed that - but it tasted foul! Boston loved it though! And he was such a good boy! Well behaved and didn't throw a single thing the whole time we were there! Oh - and I taught him to say "Ta-Ta's"... as in boobies! Heehee!

We just about froze coming out of the DFAC, only because some idiot decided to park so close that the van had to be moved forward in order to get Boston's stroller in the trunk! Some people, I tell ya!

It is a balmy 34° F with a windchill of 24° F! And yes, it is the 27th of April!

I had the bright idea that I was going to hop on my bike and ride over to the mailbox - for those who know, it is only about 200 feet away from the house! Haha! But then really, what is the point of putting on my helmet and reflective belt, to just roll down the driveway and back up?

So now I am back in the house, with my flannel pj pants on and I am not going anywhere for the rest of the day! (Although I talked to Misti and she said if I decide to go out, I can peddle my butt to her house... love ya Girl but I am not that crazy!)

I will catch up on some House today and maybe even Lost or V. Staying warm is my goal. Hopefully the snows stops and I will be able to ride and write tomorrow!

:)

Day 1

I am going to try my hand at this blog thing again. I had one before but it kind of fell to the wayside. Here's hoping that I can commit to this one and get healthy in the process!

I have decided to ride my bike somewhere/anywhere at least once a day for the next 30 days. This should prove to be interesting, because I had promised Daisy that I was going to take her for a walk every day and I have already failed at that! My poor dog!

I rode yesterday but I am actually going to start with today as day 1. Nothing too eventful happened yesterday, other than when I stopped by Colleen's, her son decided to puke all over her!  See, I was trying to get him to come and see me, but he wouldn't come. Good thing too because he would have yakked all over me and that wouldn't have been a good thing for this weak stomach lady! I would have joined in with Izzy and it would have been a "Ralph-Fest!" (*thanks Jenn!)

Anyway, so today - Day 1.
I hopped on my bike and started out. Got down around the bend, saw that Jodi and Kelly were outside so I swung over to say hi. Kelly had no idea who I was at first! Jodi told me about Xander's soccer and I figured I would ride over to see him play. I left there and rode to Popeye's and got a Delta Mini and a fountain soda. After that I headed on over to Misti's house. It isn't all that far, it's just the gradual hill that kills me. I did find a shortcut yesterday so I used that today as well. I made it to Misti's from Popeye's in about 9 minutes! w00t!

I hung out there for a while, watched Colton get his hands all dirty and try to dribble a basketball! He is such a ham! Of course, I don't ever like to over-stay my welcome, so when I was getting ready to leave, I decided that my butt was too sore to try and go see Xander play, so I started out for home. It was a pretty good ride, up until the point where Misti drove by and honked the horn at me! Scared me to the point that I almost lost the bike! Haha!

I made it back to my housing area, and ran into Kirstie walking RJ. Talked to her for a little bit then continued home. Well, I didn't quite make it all the way home on the bike. I had to stop at the bottom of the hill by my house and walk the bike up it! My legs were burning even worse than they were yesterday! I finally managed to get to the top of the hill, hopped back on and made it home. I struggled with the garage door opener, parked my bike, and almost crawled into the house!

I am nuts to think I can do this every single day for the next 30 days, but I am on a mission! Wish me luck!
